About Us
About the Shaper.
With over 40 years experience in crafting only the very best surf hardware, Greg’s design know-how is still forever expanding.
Meanwhile the attention to detail seen in the hand-laid fiberglass cloth in every fin is just as astute today as it was when making his first fin.
History.
Sixteen years after Greg Trotter made his first surfboard and a name for himself at KC Surfboards, the SOAR Fin Company was founded in 1989.
During this time Greg’s skill became trusted among upcoming surfers who were crushing conceptions of what man could do on a wave.

How
did
we arrive where we are today?
Traditionally, all fins were cut out of fiberglass laminate with a jigsaw or bandsaw and sanded into shape. Although it produced a satisfactory product this was a time consuming task.
We started moulding glass on fins in the late 80’s. Then, removable fins came along and that threw up a new set of challenges about patents and fitment.
At the genesis of SOAR fins we experimented with moulding fins with two tabs, but we were never happy with the union between the fin and the tabs. It was a definite weak spot…
So we decided to investigate CNC machinery...
There was a very steep learning curve to master the 3D drawing programs and the communication between the computer and machine.
CNC machining enables us to produce an unlimited variety of designs to the point where we can introduce a new shape within 24 hours. It has completely revolutionized the hydrodynamic precision that can be achieved with SOAR fins.
FAQ’s.
Why should I choose SOAR fins?
Whether you are new to surfing or a professional, SOAR will have a quality fin model to suit your level of surfing and equipment.
Each fin is designed and manufactured by hand here in Australia in collaboration with surfers who know what they’re talking about! This ensures you receive the best quality materials with the highest quality craftsmanship.
SOAR fins remain dedicated to manufacturing on the pristine South Coast of NSW, Australia.
Are SOAR Classic fins stiffer than Hexalite fins?
Although SOAR classic fins are solid fibreglass, they have the same flex as Hexalite fins. Since we don't need to accommodate Hexcore inside anymore, we have been able to shave about 0.6mm off the thickest part of the fin, allowing it to have more flex and with the additional benefit of cutting faster through the water.
Do SOAR Fins fit any other fin box systems?
All SOAR fins fit power base fin boxes, 1’s, 1.5’s and futures fin systems.
If a pair of SOAR fins with your desired fin system is not in stock, we are happy to make them with your specific fittings upon request!
Can I get different colours in fiberglass fins?
Of course! If you are looking for a more customized look, give us a call or send us an email! We’re happy to sort you out with some slick fins to match your stick.
